#23 Bigola Display by Great Studio
Q1: Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you’d had in mind for a while?
Ans: Bigola Display is something I have wanted to design for a long time. I was inspired by the distinctive bold serifs that are currently trending. Bigola Display is a completely reconsidered high-contrast serif design, perfectly adapted to modern realities and requirements. When I started designing the typeface, I wanted to draw modern serifs with accurately defined shapes, high stroke contrast, detailed elaboration for each character with interesting curves, while still maintaining utilitarian qualities.
Q2: What is the one or two most important things graphic communicators should know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better design?
Ans: Bigola Display is typeface that is easy to use – and easy to access alternative characters to beautify your design. A look at the examples I created as “preview images” can help designers to use alternate characters to make their work distinctive while having a clean and elegant presence. Designers and corporate brands can trust that design integrity will be maintained from micro sizes to large type on billboards.
