Q1: What should graphic communicators look for when choosing a typeface family for a specific project? What kind of typeface designs are best for pairing with your typeface?

Ans: I think a primary aim that needs to be addressed is the tone of voice for a project. Asking questions of the typeface design, like “what and how does this communicate to the intended viewer?”. Given that Fromage is mainly intended for display, most simple, unadorned sans serifs could support it well when paired.

Q2: What were your goals when designing the typeface? What is the one or two most important things graphic communicators should know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better design?

Ans: I wanted Fromage to convey something modern and elegant, but not be busy or impractical. That’s also why there is an alternate family option with a little more traditional design. It pulls inspiration from classic high-contrast serif faces, so the family feels familiar but has some distinct details and monoline strokes that give it more expression.
