#23 Loretta Display by Nova Type Foundry
Q1: Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you’d had in mind for a while?
Ans: Loretta Display is a display version of the Loretta typeface designed by Abel Martins and me in Porto, Portugal. We wanted a clean, elegant serif typeface with sharp serifs but keeping it approachable and easy to use. Loretta Display was the answer to the need to use Loretta in bigger sizes and headlines. The design came to life with the wish to create a contemporary serif typeface that we weren’t finding out there. Serif typefaces are my favorite to design!
Q2: What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?
Ans: Loretta Display can help brands communicate in headlines that want to be innovative and still bring elegance and friendliness. It can be used in big sizes, and the italics can also set a different design tone. Experimenting with italics might get new ideas for your designs.
